Tulsa, Oklahoma (CNN) — A special clinic in Tulsa on Saturday will begin testing dental patients who may have been exposed to HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C.

Some 7,000 patients who were treated by suburban Tulsa dentist W. Scott Harrington over the past six years are being urged to get tested after an investigation found unsanitary conditions at his office.

Harrington surrendered his dental license on March 20 after health investigators found that assistants were doing techniques that only a dentist should, and sterilization procedures and needles that were handled improperly.

The investigation began after the health department alerted the dentistry board to a potential hepatitis C infection from Harrington’s office. That initial patient originally tested positive for HIV, too, but a subsequent test for that virus came back negative, the health department said.
